Blue Gloves: free crochet pattern
I was going to do one more week of the course catalogue for the Auraic Academy, but I’m not really inspired to do something like that right now, so instead I present: Making fingerless (and palm-less) gloves in a tiny amount of time, for fun, if not profit!
This is a recipe more than a pattern, but I’ll share the pattern I used to fit my hands, which I’m calling the Blue Gloves, and you can modify as you see fit.
The reason for this is that I recently had to wear blue for whatever reason and I forgot about it until I’d almost left the house. So I grabbed two balls of blue yarn (one sport weight dark blue alpaca/silk, one light blue acrylic worsted weight) and a size J hook, and I made gloves in the car.
Okay, they weren’t great gloves. But they saved me from humiliation. And I embellished them later (see the flower).
Here’s the pattern. Gauge doesn’t matter — to fit your hand, add or remove a repeat. If you’re adjusting the pattern, then make sure that you add or remove a whole increase pattern repeat at the end or beginning of a row so the increases work. It’s worked in turned rows.
Blue Gloves Crochet Pattern (US crochet terms)
1. Using sport weight yarn, chain 20, sl st into first chain. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc into next 5 chains (6 dc and a loop for your index finger). Turn.
2. Chain 3, dc in same stitch, 2 dc in each stitch across (12 dc). Turn.
3. Chain 3, 2 dc in next stitch, *dc in next stitch, 2dc in next stitch* across (18 dc). Turn.
4. Chain 10 for thumb loop, sl st into bottom of row 3, sl st into post of last dc of row 3, sl st into last dc of row 3, sl st into next 3 chains. Chain 3, skip next chain, dc into next chain, 2 dc into next chain, *dc into next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch* across. Turn.
5. Chain 1, sl st into same st, sl st into next 4 stitches (removing a repeat), chain 3, dc into next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, *dc into next 3 stitches, 2dc in next stitch* across until there are 8 stitches left (2 repeats on previous row removed). Turn.
6. Chain 3, dc into next 3 stitches, 2dc in next stitch, *dc into next 4 stitches, 2dc in next stitch* across, stopping when there are 5 stitches (1 repeat) left. Turn.
7. Chain 3, dc into next 4 stitches, 2dc in next stitch, *dc into next 5 stitches, 2dc in next stitch* across. Chain 2, sl st into first dc to form wrist loop. Finish off and weave in ends.
8. With worsted weight yarn, sl st into the bottom of the very first stitch on the first row (at base of finger loop). Chain 1, sc into each stitch at base of first row, chain 13 for hand loop. The next bit is hard to put into words, but basically, your next stitches go into the last dcs of rows 4-1, on the side of the glove where you’re working toward the place you started this yarn. Sc once into the end of each stitch and once into the post. Sl st into first sc, finish off.
If you want, decorate these. I sewed on flowers. Otherwise just weave in ends and don’t bother to block them. You probably want to make two.
