Finally finished!!

I finally finished a second Papagena Shawl. I talked about this earlier, when I mentioned I was making it for my mother’s birthday in early May. Well, I didn’t finish by her birthday, but I did finish it.

It’s still a beautiful pattern, even the second time I make it. This one is made exactly the same as the first one I made, but the differences in dye lot and the yarn’s natural inconsistencies mean that it looks completely different. The yarn for this one was thicker than mine in most places, so even though it drapes the same, it’s more solid than mine is.

My mom said it was the color of saturated liquid watercolor, and I completely agree. It contrasts beautifully with my muted shawl. It looks amazing on her as well (no pictures of that, unfortunately)! Mom doesn’t usually wear shawls, but she said she would wear it all the time. Except it’s going to be extremely hot here this week (110°F/65°C) so it would be a death sentence. The joys of summer, sigh.

Still, Mom loves it and I love it and pretty much everyone who’s heard about it loves it, so I’m quite happy with it and very proud of it.

Project details — yarn: Red Heart Unforgettable, color Stained Glass; pattern: Papagena Shawl; hook: I/9 5.50mm.

This is short and not the patterns I wanted to get out today, because as luck would have it I’m not going to have time to finish it later, so I have to get it out early and do a free pattern for June next week. Looks like that’s going to be some of the pouches I’ve been making for a project… we’ll see whether I procrastinate on that.
